Apparently, everyone has a colorful egg hidden inside them. And even more, there's a little person hiding inside it. Who is that little person? Our would-be self of course. A little version of our dream self. And because most of us are just not able to convince ourselves into changing, these little people decide to come out when we ask for help.
These little people also grand us power, not only mentally, but physically as well; something that has changed the world over time. People who wanted power got it, and now that they're not the only ones in possession of it, they fight against other to prove who has the most power. From gangs to political figures, chara fights are extremely common. And even criminals, who had to hide extremely well not to be caught, now roam free and sin without leaving traces behind.
Everyone's lives have been affected by the sudden raise of charas. Whether you're a student, a teacher, a policeman, a dropout or a criminal, you're bound to get entangled in this reality's mess; especially if your little chara decided to pop out.

Gangs had always been a part of Tokyo. The sudden rise of charas made the situation worse however, since now, gangs had the advantage of supernatural power on their side. Nowadays it is very common for gang fights to take place in plain sight; the police usually unable to stop them.
Aside the shugo chara portion of the gang business, these groups still uphold their old beliefs. They work like small nations, and are usually open to negotiations with other gangs. Whether their goal is territory or fame, they intend to get it not only through brute strength, but through alliances as well.
With those negotiations however, come certain consequences, raging from minor beatings, to actual murders. The gang business is not one for the weak. Once you get in, you rarely get out alive and well.
